OPI Designer Series Magic

29 Aug

It still amazes me that this is the first OPI polish I’ve posted. It is the brand that I have the most of in my collection (34 bottles!) and it’s definitely my favorite! This is OPI Magic, one of the three Designer Series bottles I own. I’ve seen many swatches of the other DS colors, and none of them really stood out to me. This was my favorite but I was still kinda “Meh…” about it.

I actually ordered this from when I ordered my 3rd polish rack, so it was only $7.50 (but shipping was crazy expensive!) Even when I saw it in the bottle I wasn’t too stoked to wear it. I think it has something to do with the shimmer. I love purple, but the purple shimmer in this just doesn’t move me. Anyway, I put this on for the first time ever the other day and I really regret not trying it earlier.

I have no words for this besides “wow….” It’s probably one of the most beautiful colors I own. I got compliments for the past 2 days so I guess I’m not the only one who likes it 🙂  It’s almost like a dark blue foil almost. In the shade, it does have a slight purple shimmer. It has a great formula too, this is 3 coats. I tried it with 2 and though it was full coverage but I put another coat on to fix it 🙂 The clean up around my nails was super easy too. Hopefully this means that it will be easy to remove!

NOTD Water Marbling and Dots

26 Aug

As much as I love just painting my nails, I also love nail art. I only started getting into nail art earlier this year, so I’m still a total noob.

This is my attempt at water marbling. I will not lie, I’m awful at it. I’ve only done it once or twice before and it’s to time consuming to really practice a lot. After I did the marbling, I used my dotting tools to do dots over the strips of color.

These are the colors I used: OPI – Suzi Says Feng Shui (in the water marbling and the color on the rest of the nails), China Glaze – For Audrey, and Sinful Colors- Snow Me White. The Sinful Colors white is the one I use for all my white nail art and water marbling. You can see that there’s a line of white polish that dripped down it. Water marbling is sooo messy 😛

This is what I do my water marbling in. It’s just a little glass flower pot that I bought at Hobby Lobby. I know a lot of people use shot glasses or plastic cups. It doesn’t really matter what you use, the effect will still be the same.

By the way! I don’t think I’ve mentioned this yet, but I use OPI Nail Envy Nail Strengthener as my base coat, and I finally used up my first bottle! When I opened the next one up and used it, I realized that it was a lot thinner than what little was left in my last bottle. I think over time, it just slowly got thicker and thicker. I’m just surprised I never noticed!

Models Own Mirrorball Collection

24 Aug

Hey guys! TGIF! Does anyone else agree that this has been such a long week? It seemed like it dragged on forver! Oh well! I already have a few posts lined up for this weekend, one of which I was going to post today but then I saw this on Tumblr and I freaked out a little.

As some (or most) of you may know, Models Own is a cosmetics brand that is based in the UK. The only bad thing about that is that you can’t just go out and buy it here in the U.S. 😦

I currently don’t own any bottles of Models Own nail polish. I have heard a lot about it but it never really intreged me that much. That is, until now….

This is the picture I saw on my Tumblr dashboard today. Well. actually, more like 20 minutes ago. It said that they got it from the Models Own facebook page, so I went to go check it out.

This is what I found along with the picture:

“NEW! The MIRRORBALL Collection, a completely unique glide-on glitter that will revitalise your entire polish collection! Wear alone or over your favourite colour polish to give a frosting finish, taking nails from boring to BLING! Each polish contains five different chunky colours of hand-cut glitter that are guaranteed to get the party started: Disco Inferno, a glittery gold disco bomb; Hot Stuff…, an intoxicating mix of pink and gold sparkles; Freak Out, a crystal shimmer mix of bold blue and purple; Dancing Queen, fabulous flecks of emerald, blue and gold; Boogie Nights, a multicoloured mix of intriguing purple, pink and blue! The Mirrorball Collection launches (with LIMITED EDITION metallic coloured caps!)”

Oh my gosh…. Look at all that glitter! I need these polishes! There have been very few collections that I have been more excited for than these. They’re just like glitter explosions!
I think I most excited for “Disco Inferno” (gold). I love me some gold, chunky glitter 🙂 Which do you like best?

Zoya Opal Swatch

23 Aug

I am so excited about this post! Today I am swatching Zoya Opal from the Spring 2012 Fleck Effect Collection. I have been looking for this one for sooo long! I finally found it, and on sale too! It was only $6! Yay!

This is a green to blue iridescent flakie polish. It is only the second flakie polish that I own, even though I happen to love them! Needless to say, I was so excited to wear this!

I hate how hard it is to get decent pictures of this! I’ll try it over white and maybe repost it another time. But this is 2 coats of Opal over 2 coats of Sally Hansen’s Black Out.  Wowie… That’s all I can say. Flakies are such beautiful polishes and this is one of the best I’ve seen. Especially the dark blue iridescent part. The formula is great, I only used 2 coats because I wanted more flakes, I can’t get enough!

If you guys can’t find this near you, order it! Totally worth it!

China Glaze Stella Swatch

22 Aug

Hey guys! I’m sooo sorry it’s been so long since my last post. I’ve been so busy trying to finish my AP summer homework and school started on Monday. Then, yesterday, I finally had time to post something. I wrote out this entire post and guess what? My computer crashed… Awesome. But! After I post this, I’m going to add another post that will be published tomorrow so be sure to check that out too! Anyway, onto the post!

Have you guys ever bought a polish just because you liked the name? I do that occasionally. This polish happens to be one of those. This is China Glaze’s Stella.

I decided a while ago that whenever I have a daughter, I will name her Stella Marie. Don’t ask me why, I think that name is just so… glamorous.

Stella is a dark violet color with purple and reddish shimmer. It’s like a dark fuchsia. It reminds me a lot of Zoya Yasmeen, but a lighter. It’s a lot more beautiful than I thought it would be.

Oh gosh, I love purples. This is such a gorgeous color. Actually, I say that about most of the colors i review, don’t I? Oh well, I guess it just love nail polish ^_^ It has a great formula, only took 2 coats in the above picture. The only problem I had with this one was the drying time. It took longer than most polishes, even with my insta-dri top coat! Oh and it’s an older polish so I doubt you’ll be able to find it in stores, so I would check the internet 🙂

Kiko Purple Holographic

17 Aug

Earlier this summer, I got the chance of a lifetime. I got to spend almost a month traveling all around Italy and Greece. It was basically the most amazing experience of a lifetime. But, while I was there, I made myself a goal that I would buy at least 1 nail polish in both Italy and Greece. In total, I ended up buying 7… I bought the first ones from a makeup shop called Kiko. It’s an Italy based cosmetics company, but this certain product was made in France. There is 1 interesting thing about foreign nail polish: they don’t have names. You know how OPI or China Glaze always names each polish with a cute pun or something? Not the case with these polishes.

This is my favorite of the 7 I bought. It’s number 255 or, as the website states, Violet Microglitter. It’s a dark purple with really beautiful holographic microglitter.

Here’s a blurry shot to show off the beautiful holo effect in the polish.

This shade of purple is one of my favorites, I love purple. The holo effect in this isn’t as apparent on the nail as it is in the bottle. It’s still gorgeous though! If you ever get the chance to visit a Kiko store, I advise you to pick this up, it was super cheap! 🙂

Milani Gems Swatch

16 Aug

Last month, I went to Ocean City, Maryland for my family’s yearly vacation. This is the second time I’ve been there and it’s honestly my favorite place to be. While we were there, we stopped by a Walmart to grab some groceries when I realized that I forgot to bring a top coat! So I ran to the makeup section to look for a cheap top coat to use. While I was there, I saw a brand of nail polish that I recognized, but wasn’t available near me, Milani.

I’ve seen a lot of swatches of Milani polishes and when I saw this on the shelf, it intrigued me. This one is called Milani Gems from the Jewel FX collection that came out in 2010. From what I can tell, it’s a dupe for  Deborah Lippmann’s Happy Birthday and OPI’s Rainbow Connection, neither of which I own. I actually didn’t use it until just now, and I’m upset that I didn’t. It’s soooo beautiful. I’m also upset that my camera didn’t seem to like this one very much, and it was really hard to capture a good picture of this one.

I took a couple of pictures in the sunlight but the glitter didn’t really seem to shine like it did in real life so I decided to take a couple more in the shade.

This picture is much, much better. Anyway, on to the polish! Gems is a mixture of silver, gold, red, green, and magenta hexagon glitter and blue, green, red, and magenta micro glitter. Wow, sooo beautiful. This is 1 coats over 2 coats of Sally Hasen Black Out.  As much as I love glitter and shimmer, I don’t usually wear glitter top coats but I completely love this one. The formula on this was perfect except that the hex glitter likes to clump together a little bit but that doesn’t take away from the beauty of it.
