OPI DS Magic VS Orly Lunar Eclipse

1 Dec

Hey Guys! Hope you’re all having a wonderful weekend! I know I am! I’ve been super busy lately, as usual čÖé I ordered a nail polish making kit on Etsy the other day so I’ve been doing that lately, and I LOVE IT!

Anyway, I was going through my nail polish collection and saw that these 2 polishes look almost exactly alike. I was a little disappointed because I don’t like “wasting” money so when I find 2 polishes that are so similar, that’s exactly how I feel. But, I figured that it would be a good thing to show you, considering one of these is considerably higher priced than the other.

I already did a review of OPI Designer Series Magic which you can find here. Orly Lunar Eclipse is from the Cosmic FX collection that released in Fall 2010. I actually bought this at Ulta and I think it may have been on sale.

First and Ring Finger: Orly Lunar Eclipse
Middle and Pinky: OPI DS Magic

I spent probably 10 full minutes staring at my nails just to see if I could tell the difference and I honestly couldn’t. Orly LE has a lot more purple color shift in the bottle but it doesn’t really show up on the nail. These are definitely┬ádupes.

Considering Orly retails for $8 and the OPI DS bottles retail at $12 (I think), I think Orly is the better choice. Also, Orly has .6 oz as opposed to OPI, with only .5. The only plus side about the OPI bottle is that it has a pretty brush handle, and I prefer the brush size.

Orly Torrid Swatch

30 Sep

The other day I ordered a couple things from TransDesign and i found a set of 3 Orly polishes from their Naughty or Nice Collection. It came with Torrid (a shimmer darkish red), Halo (champagne/silver glitter), and Devil May Care which is red and gold glitter. As much as I love glittery polishes, the one that kept catching my eye was Torrid!

It looks super dark in this picture, but it’s not too dark in real life. It’s a scarlet red that’s super shimmery. Very classy. čÖé

It was a great formula. It dries fast and is very opaque. This is 2 coats and of course a top coat. I love this red! Probably my second favorite red that I own (first is China Glaze Ruby Pumps.) Even my mom said that it’s her favorite red čÖé Then again, she says that about basically every red I wear…

Orly Monster Mash Swatch

23 Sep

Today I have a swatch of Orly’s Monster Mash from the Halloween 2012 Spellbound Collection. It’s probably my favorite of the 3 I picked up, which is odd because I’m not usually a fan of greens. But, I do love glitter čśÇ

Monster Mash is a green holo top coat glitter with hexagon, bar, and micro glitter. All the glitter has blue/green/yellow holo effect and it’s so gorgeous. Instead of layering it over black or white, I picked another green.

I chose Sinful Colors HD Nails. It’s just a regular shiny green. I almost matched these too almost too perfectly because the glitter didn’t show up that well against the green except in the sunlight. I actually swatch all of my polish on nail wheels, so instead of just showing you guys Monster Mash on my nails, I also snapped a pic of it on my wheel.

This is 2 coats of Monster Mash over a white/creamy “nail”. The orange color next to it is Right Amount of Evil, from the same collection.

This is 1 coat of Monster Mash over 3 coats of HD Nails. The formula on this was fine, the glitter kept wanting to clump together but it was an easy fix. HD Nails was a bit sheer at first but at┬á3 coats it evened out. The dry time on these were both great. That’s surprising because usually drugstore brands take forever to dry. I think Monster Mash is such a gorgeous color. But, next time I’ll layer it over a different color, maybe white.

Ulta Haul!

22 Sep

So this post is super late… I took these pictures and meant to post them last Sunday but first of all my camera would not connect to my computer so I couldn’t upload anything. Also, it may have something to do with me playing Borderlands 2 for hours on end all week…. čÖé

Anyway, I went shopping at the mall last Saturday and how can a shopping spree be complete without stopping by Ulta┬áto pick up a few things? I was soooo excited when I saw what they had there. They recently stocked all their Halloween polishes! čśÇ Halloween is my favorite holiday and some of my favorite polishes too!

So, here’s a quick haul of what I bought!

Pictured above is (right to left): R.I.P, Right Amount of Evil, Monster Mash. These 3 are from the Halloween 2012 Spellbound Collection.

I also picked up a bottle of Flip Flop Fantasy. It’s totally a summer neon color which I should’ve picked up earlier this summer but I resisted until now… which was a bad idea cause I can’t really wear it until next summer… čśŽ

I have been looking for this forever and I finally found it! Actually I almost missed it because they put it right next to the check out on the bottom of a shelf! This is OPI’s┬áHalloween mini set : So So┬áSkullicious. It came with 4 colors: Hi, Pumpkin!, A-rose from the Dead, Mourning Glory, and Candlelight as well as a set of nail decals.

The last thing I bought was the OPI 2012 Pink of Hearts set. It came with (right to left): You Glitter Be Good to Me and I Think in Pink.

My Nail Polish Collection

14 Sep

So I wanted to do something a little different from what I usually do and show you guys my┬ánail┬ápolish┬ácollection. I know a lot of people either put their polish in a bin or drawer but I’m in love with nail polish and want to show it off to anyone who comes into my room čÖé (btw, this is my second time rewriting all of this. I hit the publish button and it decided to delete all but this paragraph)

This is my collection on March 10, 2012. It almost makes me laugh how much it has changed since then.

This is to the very left of my collection, I have this “charging stand” that I found at Target. The top is my mostly unused top and base coats: almost gone┬ábottle of Seche┬áVite, Sally Hansen, Essie Matte About You, and Rimmel┬áSmoothing base coat. The next shelf is my 2 OPI┬áNail Envy: Original and Matte. I use one of those 2 as a base coat every time I paint my nails. The third shelf is my 9 striper polishes. 3 are from L.A. colors: Black, Magenta, and Gold Glitter. The rest are┬áKiss Nail Art Paint: Pearl Blue, Bikini Pink, Beach Green, Black, White, and Silver Glitter. The last shelf is my 8 OPI┬áminis, 4 from the Nicki Minaj┬áCollection and 4 from a Christmas from a couple of years back.

This is the same standing rack from the first picture, but now it holds only my OPI bottles čÖé It has 34 bottles including my black shatter and Designer Series. I’m not gonna mention every color but if you have a question, comment on this post and I’ll get back to you čÖé

This is the rack that holds my non-drugstore polishes (and Essie). It has 1 Milani, 1 Piggy Polish, 25 China Glaze, 6 Orly, 10 Zoya, and 12 Essie polishes.

This my nail polish rack (and another charging stand) that holds my drugstore/random polish. It has tons of Sinful Colors, Maybelline, Revlon, Sally Hansen, Kiko, and Erre Due polishes on it. The green charging stand holds mostly my random glitter polishes which is why some bottles are upside down. Also, I have my mini tiki from Ocean City, MD čÖé

So obviously, the brand I own the most of is OPI, what’s yours? Comment and let me know! čÖé
